Making a "black box" data validation process legible for the people it affects the most

Designing a data upload flow and verification dashboard so school districts can see — and trust — what goes into student outcomes reporting.

MY ROLE

I led UX research and design for the data upload verifications dashboard:

  • Built 2 interactive prototypes

  • Moderated user research sessions,

  • Synthesizing feedback to create an iterated, WCAG - compliant final design‍ ‍

  • I also managed project scope and timeline, bringing in contractors for UI and copywriting as needed.

OUTCOMES

Increased data accuracy: we implemented design changes that flexibly reflect the highly varied nature of demographic reporting in schools across the country

Key design fix: Users were confused about the concept of a cohort vs the entire student body. Our design changes increased clarity and reduced errors.

Launch result: Successful data upload and verification for one of the top largest school districts in the US
